For this type of constructions, soil treatment techniques are quite different for the granular soils and for the cohesive soils.

Granular Soils

Objectives :
- Self-bearing of fill
- Increase surface bearing capacity
- Anti-liquefaction treatment (earthquake)

Construction projects at ports and airports involve vast amounts of land area. Oftentime the needed land is reclaimed on wetlands or in water by using dredged or imported fill materials. This presents a challenge for the engineer to identify an economical means to improve such expansive quantities of soil. The engineers primary objective is to induce a soil treatment which stabilizes the fill for short-term and long-term performance.
Working with the owner, MENARD will stipulate the most effective treatment which will increase the bearing capacity under the future structures. MENARD's engineered solutions consider a range of potential soil conditions and natural events, such as in seismic-prone areas, anti-liquefaction treatment.

Cohesive Soils

Objectives :
- Self-bearing of fill
- Long term residual settlement

It is essential to control long term consolidation settlement and creep.
