Abnia Cement Products Factory - United Arab Emirates
Heavy Industry (petrochemical, storage) / Dynamic Replacement

Abnia Cement Products Factory is a plant that is being built in Mussafah to produce building materials for the numerous projects that are being constructed in Abu Dhabi. A number of structures including service and rooms, precast and block factories, storage area, weigh bridge, and underground water tank were designed on treated soil. While the footings were designed for a bearing capacity of 200 kPa, the underground water tank required a bearing capacity of 130 kPa. The storage areas were to be loaded to 35 kPa

Abu Dhabi Business Hub - Phase II - United Arab Emirates
Industrial and Commercial buildings / Dynamic Replacement

Abu Dhabi Business Hub Phase II is the primary phase for constructing the multi purpose warehouse buildings in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD), Mussafah, UAE. This phase with about 60,000 m2 of storage area is intended to meet the requirements of numerous prospective companies that are interested in increasing their storage capacities in Abu Dhabi. The warehouses' slabs on grade were expected to be loaded uniformly to 3,000 kg/m2, and had to settle less than 25 mm under that load.

Abu Dhabi New Corniche Road - United Arab Emirates
Communication routes (Roads - Railways) / Dynamic Compaction

Ground conditions were made of a sand for a depth varying from 4m to 12m, with presence of pockets of silt located randomly at various depths. Water table was located 2 meters below platform level level. Acceptance criteria were based on: - For platform properly speaking , compliance with a minimum relative density, measured with SPT tests , and comparison with reference values obtained from initial calibration. Laboratory density measurements on samples , if SPT results not in accordance with specifications. -For the sub marine stability backfill compliance with a minimum horizontal reaction coefficient, deducted from in situ measurements.

ADCOP - United Arab Emirates
Heavy Industry (petrochemical, storage) / Dynamic Compaction

The huge ADCOP Project (Abu Dabhi Crude Oil Pipeline) consisting of a pipeline construction 370 km long between ABU DABHI and eastern coast of UAE. The MOT (Main Oil Terminal) is composed of 8 Tanks with a diameter of 110 m and 20m high placed on a 1.2km x 0.8km Platform. The purpose of this project is to limit Oil Transportation via Tankers across Dortmund Strait and within the Gulf.

Al Falah Community - United Arab Emirates
Industrial and Commercial buildings / Dynamic Compaction

The aim of those Works was to achieve everywhere on site a bearing capacity of 150 kPa for isolated footings of 1.5 * 1.5 m2 and 3 * 3 m2; to limit the settlement of such footings to a maximum absolute settlement of 25 mm and a maximum differential settlement of 1/500; and to mitigate the liquefaction potential for a design seism having a magnitude of 6 and a peak ground acceleration of 0.15g.

Al Faq'A & Al Quoa Platform Construction - United Arab Emirates
Industrial and Commercial buildings / Dynamic Compaction

Houses to be built either on areas of "fill" or areas of "cut". All fills initially realized by dumping un-compacted sand. No water table found through thickness treated. The aim of treatment was to increase fill density , in order to limit settlements under future houses, differential settlements for houses implemented partially on fill and partially on cuts , or on fills of variable thickness.Aim was also to insure self bearing criteria , that is to say to avoid that fills settle under their own weight.

Alexandria City Center - Egypt
Industrial and Commercial buildings / Vertical Drains

Due to the important thickness of the fill to be installed to reach the final platform level and to the load of the structure properly speaking , this soft clay layer would have settled , if remained un-treated, of several meters over the life time of the building (consolidation phenomenon) and would have induced unacceptable post construction settlements. Moreover, the Owner MAF MISR wanted to have a global Soil Treatment in order to keep the opportunity to shift the location of its building at any place inside the right of way for architectural reasons.

AVE Cordoba to Malaga - Spain
Communication routes (Roads - Railways) / Stone Columns

The technique proposed by Menard Soltraitement consisted in a global treatment of the whole footprint of the future embankment by installing inclusions in the soft soil layer using Stone Columns. The air driven bottom feed dry method, was preferred to the more common wet top feed technique to insure better columns quality and minimum disturbance to working platforms. Those inclusions were used firstly to ensure the stability of the whole embankment and secondly to increase the speed of consolidation of the clayey soil prior to tracks construction.

A.K.S. sugar silos - Dubaï - United Arab Emirates
Heavy Industry (petrochemical, storage) / Dynamic Compaction

The project is the construction of 2 new sugar silos of 72m hight and 34m diameter MENARD was invited to propose a design and build solution using soil improvement to create a safe and economical foundation system.
